Kathy Freeman
My focus is to create inviting, functional pottery. Whether making a lamp or an often reached for mug, my work and my goal is for the user to experience the joy of a well balanced, visually pleasing, hand thrown form.
I've always loved and collected pottery. I took two semesters of ceramics at my local college in 1988. Fast forward 36 years and I enrolled at my local college and in addition began weekly private lessons.
My background is as a hospice and regulatory RN. Pottery is what I run to when not at work. Of my work, 99% is thrown on the wheel. The best part of the process, for me, is when the piece is initially thrown and still sitting on the wheel. It's a tactile, visual experience I never grow tired of. If I'm home, I'm in my studio in Baytown. The sign on the door says, "Welcome to My Happy Place."
